Acetylsalicylic acid ( acidum acetylsalicylicum ) is commonly known as aspirin. It is a derivative of salicylic acid obtained by reacting salicylic acid with acetic anhydride and a catalyst in the form of sulfuric or phosphoric acid. It is a white powder with a crystalline structure. It is slightly soluble in water and readily soluble in ethyl alcohol and diethyl ether. In agriculture, the product is used to increase plant resistance.
