Chamomile in phytotherapy since Antiquity
Chamomile is one of the oldest plants recognized in phytotherapy. This is due to its remarkable and versatile properties. In nature, it appears as a plant that produces many small flowers, distinguished by white petals and a yellow center. It is most often found in fallow fields, meadows, cereal fields, along roadsides, at forest edges, and even in gardens.
Similar plants
When you want to harvest chamomile, you should know that there are many similar species, but they do not have the same properties. Field chamomile or anaerobic marigold, for example, have an almost identical appearance. The ability to distinguish these flowers is essential, especially for those who practice phytotherapy. Chamomile is primarily characterized by its hollow central basket and emits a pleasant aroma when rubbed in the palm of the hands. Neither field chamomile nor odorless marigold have these characteristics.
Regular use of chamomile - benefits
Regular use of chamomile helps to remedy many health problems. Poultices made from its flowers are valuable because they accelerate the wound healing process and also have anti-inflammatory properties. Chamomile also relaxes smooth muscles and stimulates digestion. This plant is therefore valuable for all gastrointestinal disorders such as constipation or flatulence, among others. It also relieves symptoms of inflammation of the skin and mucous membranes. A chamomile infusion is an excellent remedy for all bacterial infections of the oral cavity.
Beneficial for the digestive system
Flavonoids and coumarin derivatives, present in large quantities, make chamomile an excellent remedy to counter and neutralize digestive disorders. It promotes intestinal function and facilitates the flow of bile. It is recommended to drink a glass of this infusion after consuming very digestible foods. Chamomile prevents gastric hyperacidity and reduces the secretion of gastric juice.
For skin problems
Allergies can be fought with natural methods, including chamomile compresses. This plant has antihistamine properties that relieve allergy symptoms. It is also distinguished by its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effects, which contribute to faster regeneration of skin tissues. Chamomile compresses are valuable for soothing burns and ulcers.
Use in cosmetics
The properties of chamomile are extremely versatile, as evidenced by its widespread use in the cosmetics industry. It has the ability to lighten hair and is therefore ideal for the care of blonde and dull hair. A rinse made from this plant strengthens the roots and prevents hair loss.

The main contraindications are use by people prone to skin allergies. Despite the presence of chamazulene, which has an anti-allergic effect, it is recommended to carefully monitor the use of compresses. Furthermore, the use of chamomile simultaneously with medications always requires consultation with a doctor. Chamomile can indeed weaken or strengthen the effect of certain medications.
Chamomile tea
Chamomile is an ideal supplement to the daily diet, mainly due to its rich resources of vitamins and minerals. It promotes the functioning of the entire digestive system. The simplest way to serve it is as an infusion, which is very easy to prepare. Just pour a measured portion of dried herb into a glass, pour boiling water over it, and wait 10 minutes, keeping the glass covered. To prepare a chamomile compress, pour hot water over the dried chamomile and immediately wrap it in gauze or a cloth.
