White mulberry - plant characteristics

The white mulberry [Latin: Morus alba] is a species of small deciduous trees from the mulberry family. It originates from China but has spread worldwide through cultivation. It is now found naturally in Africa, Europe, North and South America, and the Pacific islands. White mulberry is recognized for its content of substances that lower blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of atherosclerosis. Additionally, mulberry may aid in weight loss. The most sought-after plant raw material is the mulberry leaf.

White mulberry - an effective remedy against hyperglycemia

Type 2 diabetes is one of the most widespread diseases in 21st-century civilization. This condition is characterized by high blood sugar and tissue resistance to insulin. Numerous scientific studies have shown that the alkaloid [DNJ] contained in white mulberry can help control blood sugar levels. This compound has properties that allow it to inhibit the postprandial blood sugar increase and insulin secretion, thus preventing reactive hypoglycemia. According to publicly available experimental results, consuming an infusion of mulberry leaves has the greatest effect.

White mulberry - antibacterial and antiviral properties

Scientific studies clearly indicate that mulberry leaves contain compounds, including those from the flavonoid group, that can treat bacteria such as:

• salmonella
• golden staphylococcus
• shigella dysenteriae - the bacterium responsible for diarrhea and abdominal pain.

Furthermore, it has been shown that alkaloids present in mulberry leaves, including the aforementioned compound called DNJ, may have antiviral effects.
