DESCRIPTION
Hojicha is an exception among Japanese teas, and its taste is unlike any other green tea. Hojicha comes from leaves harvested in autumn and is roasted at a high temperature, giving the leaves a dark brown color. It then acquires its unique smoky aroma and sweet taste with hints of caramel and nuts. During the roasting process, hojicha also loses its caffeine content, making it suitable for drinking before bedtime and even for the children of pregnant women. The process of roasting green tea was invented in the 1920s in Kyoto, and since then, hojicha has steadily gained popularity far beyond Japan.

Drinking hojicha helps regulate cholesterol and sugar levels in the body and strengthens the immune system. Hojicha, like genmaicha, is often served with meals in Japan. It can be brewed multiple times, although three infusions are generally optimal. Moya Hojicha is sourced from a small, organic family farm on the southern island of Kiushu. The production process takes place in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, where it is also certified and rigorously tested for possible contamination.
